Tune the tunes in…

Sound too good to be true that you can have your own recorded music play through an MP3 format while on board your favorite boat on a very nice day on the water?  It’s really not far fetched at all!  Modern technology makes it real easy to accomplish just that.  Why not share the music with the others on board instead of being privately “plugged in” to your music machine!  Quality of sound?  Not a problem.  With your music playing through a quality marine radio receiver and assuming that your boat is equipped with a nice pair of marine speakers and marine subwoofer speakers, you can produce a very high quality of sound.  Check out what’s available in marine audio systems today!

Bright side to tax time?

I do believe that the only bright side to tax time is that it marks the middle of April and I know that somewhere between the 23rd and the 25th each year, the ice goes out on the lake I have my cabin on.  That means that the boats can be put into the water, the docks put in place and anchored, and the preparation begins once again to open up the cabin for the new season!   That is MUCH more fun than having to put everything away in the fall of the year -yuck!  I know a lot of you folks are doing the same, and hopefully you are allowing yourself time to install the proper communication equipment on your boat before launching it this spring!  At least make the effort to check out how reasonable a nice Marine Radio receiver is so you can have incredible music on you pontoon or your boat – played directly from your MP3 pre-recorded format.  …or maybe you already have a nice marine radio, but your choice this season would be to add a nice marine speaker system to your boat or pontoon.  Whatever your choice, take time to assess the needs and the safety of those on board.  Happy Boater

Sure nice to see your comments!

Lately I’ve enjoyed reading all the comments that have been coming in to this blog.  Thank you for the time you took to respond – even if only to say you liked it or didn’t agree with something!  Hopefully all of us will come out the winner from sharing thoughts.  Today is a beautiful day and even thought this afternoon promises to have another couple of inches of snow coming through, I’ll take heart in knowing that spring is right around the corner.  I have enjoyed driving school bus part time lately and have come to realize first hand just how irritating it is to not be able to hear clearly when that CB Radio crackles and you’re trying to decipher just what in the world they are trying to say to you!  Quality speakers are really the key to being able to hear what is being said.  I maintain that purchasing quality marine speakers because of their resistance to weather and weather-related items like humidity would be a wise investment whether you’re driving a bus or enjoying a day on the water with your friends.  Even a communication from an inexpensive unit can be heard (and understood) more clearly through a quality speaker system.  Do yourself a favor – this year pick up a good pair of marine speakers and enhance that “enjoyment factor”.

Save yourself some headaches and get good speakers!

Have you ever listened to something and wondered what in the world you just heard??  Some of us have some significant hearing loss anyway, so it’s really hard sometimes to make out just what was said in a normal conversation over a meal.  Actually – sometimes you can get yourself into very embarrassing situations if you answer the other person according to what you “thought” you heard them say rather than what they REALLY said (which may be a far cry from what they said in the first place).  Now – if you’re hearing that conversation over a speaker system on a boat with other noises all around you such as the motor running , how important it is to be able to understand just what you’re hearing.  There a lot of great speakers out there in the marketplace nowadays!  Get on board and invest in some waterproof, reliable marine speakers for your boat.  Then when that message comes over the airwaves, you will find that you will not have to deal with “distortion”, but will actually hear with clarity what the person on the other end of the conversation is trying to communicate!  Some of us need all the help we can get!!  (and yep, I’m in that boat…)

Speakers with that belly jiggle…

What fun to plug in your latest and greatest mp3 recordings into your marine radio receiver on board as part of the well designed marine audio system you put together!  Your friends will love it!!  Now, my taste in music has changed over the years, but I still really enjoy some good old rock ‘n roll music out of the late 50s or early 60’s as I sit back for an enjoyable afternoon …or maybe some country from around that era.  Maybe some of you like heavy metal (I’ll just be on the other boat – haha).  Whatever your taste in music, there’s nothing like hearing it like it’s supposed to be heard.  Consider installing some Marine Sub-Woofers on board to you can feel the music.  I really don’t know how much it will kill the fishing to turn up the music, but be considerate – make sure you’re not making the neighboring boaters angry with the volume of your music.  Remember – sound travels a long way over the water.  I guess if you did scare away all the fish, you wouldn’t have to clean any fish!  Be safe…

Happy New Year!!

Another year has come and gone and I guess if we can say we are better today than we were at the beginning of the year, we won. Thr Christmas season we just went through wasn’t too kind to my wasteline.  Funny how that work, hey?  Guess I’ll have to attack that first thing.  …always a struggle.  Hopefully this past year you took the time to update your communication devices on your recreational boat for both the fun of hearing your favorite songs played through the sound system on your boat and safety on the waterways.  If you can’t say ‘yes’ to this, then I hope you will make it a priority for 2010 to get a marine radio or VHF marine radio on your boat.  You owe it to yourself!  Quality marine speakers are really nice, but more importantly is the safety of all on board.

I pray you have good health in 2010 and much happiness.  I look forward to making this next year a good one and will try to post to this blog at least 5 times a week – keeping you up to date on any new laws regarding your marine radios, CB radios, or marine speaker systems.  Enjoy your long weekend!!  So Happy New Year from the North Shore of Lake Superior in Northern Minnesota!!  May you always have calm seas in your life!

christmas tree ornamentsWell, it’s Christmas Day once again! Where I live, everything is white, although I must say that we normally have quite a bit more snow by this time than we have this year. A 6 inch base of snow is really quite essential to keep the frost from going so deep as to freeze the septic system up – not nice when that happens!!

It is my wish to all of you that you will have a blessed Christmas season and a wonderful New Year. Hopefully you will get a chance to step away from the busy-ness of the season – if only for a moment – to reflect on the past year and where you hope to be this time next year. Think about giving. I am reminded of something my college professor said one day. He said the whole world could be a very different and better place if only each of us would learn to leave the word ‘I’ out of our conversations. He then challenged us to try it for only 1 day. It really wasn’t as easy as you might think it would be, but it makes a person realize just how self centered we can become in our everyday world. Try it – it really was fun!

I realize that we didn’t’ talk marine speakers, marine radios, or CB Radios today, but I wanted to take break from that today – Christmas Day – to wish you and yours a very blessed Christmas.

Are you on Santa’s “good” list?

Boss 2-Way Marine Box SpeakersSpeaker 3 for the week that we are discussing is a waterproof (or marine) component speaker. These are actually more than one marine speaker rolled into one. Yes, these speakers actually separate the frequencies electronically so that each of the separate components within the speaker is required to produce its own quota of frequencies. Although this definitely improves your sound quality, they typically are larger and require more room for installation.

A couple of years ago, I got a gift from my daughter for Christmas that was a pillow with a picture of Santa on it. The picture depicted Santa checking over his list and the caption said “Yep – you were nice! …..oh what a minute – that wasn’t you!” I got a chuckle out of it and it still gets put out on the chair every Christmas season. Well, let’s hope that this year you can be found on the ‘nice’ list!! Haha!!
