Speakers make a good system great!
When you insert your MP3 player or your I-pod into the receptacle on the back of your marine radio, what kind of sound do you have? Is it distorted on the low notes? Is it hard understand the words sung? Maybe it’s just plain irritating with the tinny sound you hear! The problem may not be with your radio – it’s possibly with the speakers! Speakers have come a long way nowadays with their waterproof design for the marine speakers. Add that missing element – clarity to your music enjoyment! Add a pair of very affordable high quality speakers to your sound system and experience the difference! It’s like day and night! Enjoy. Happy Boater.
Immense Technology Strides…
I’m constantly amazed at just how far we’ve come in technology in the time span of just 50 years or so. It wasn’t until the early 60’s that anyone had even heard of a transistor radio! …and then when you had one with SIX transistors, you really thought you were hot stuff! True – they could barely bring in the local stations, but they worked. Yesterday I was looking at a Ford Model A that my friend had restored. He had a piece of equipment that was supposed to be attachable to the dashboard in the car that was called a “brake gauge”. Now, I’m sure many of you have never heard of such a thing either, but its theory of operation was simply from inertia of motion. When you were moving, the gauge registered at “zero”. But, when you braked, if you hit a “4″ on the guage as the counterweight was thrusting forward, it would indicate that you brakes were working properly! How about that for technology?! I love it!! Likewise, the technological improvement made in marine speakers is equally astounding! If the speakers you have on your deck, pontoon boat, speed boat, or other places are “crackling” or “distorting” the low notes, you need an upgrade. These are now very affordable and are waterproof! Enjoy top notch sound quality with very little invested. Why not enjoy what you’re listening to? Happy Boater.
Be considerate when placing your speakers!
There is much to be said for having great quality marine speakers attached to your marine radio receiver and being able to listen to high quality sound through those great marine speakers. You must, however, realize that not everyone enjoys your music as much as you do so when selecting your music and ultimately setting the volume control on your receiver, step back and take note how it might sound to someone nearby – say a neighbor – or maybe someone on the other side of the lake if your speakers are aimed at the shoreline. I experienced such a situation this weekend. I could barely carry on a conversation with my guests at my summer home because someone was not being considerate on the other side of the bay and blaring their music towards the shoreline. You must remember that sound carries over water much easier than it does over land. I probably wouldn’t have minded so much, but what he was playing through his unit barely qualified as music – more like noise. I was not pleased and my guests were wondering why I didn’t do something about it. I was hoping it was a 1-time thing and this wouldn’t be an ongoing problem, but I guess if it does continue, I’m going to have to make a neighborly visit and invite my neighbor over to my cabin so he can listen first hand just how loud his system is in my yard (about 2 blocks away). Try to always be considerate when using outdoor sound equipment – you may not even realize just how much your “fun” may be cutting into the “fun” of others. There’s plenty of ways that everyone can enjoy the day at the same time!! Happy Boater.
Speakers are important!
What good is it if you have a dynamite great marine radio receiver if you aren’t happy with the sound you get out of your speakers! It’s kinda like eating a hot dog when you should be eating a steak! The atmosphere you are trying to create with the great music just comes up on the short end if your speakers don’t step up to the plate and show their stuff. Why not take a moment to evaluate what condition your speakers are in and make the proper changes or adjustments. Maybe you only need to place your speaker in a different area on the boat, pontoon, or deck. Maybe you need to invest into some new marine speakers for your listening enjoyment! There are a lot of great speakers available in the marketplace today and they are very reasonable. It costs so little more to go first class. Happy listening from the Happy Boater.
Tired of “squeaky and squawky”?
Does your current sound system sound a bit squeaky and squawky? You know what I mean – the words are hard to understand, the music, when played through your system is anything but pleasant, and sometimes it would sound better if just left the switch in the “off” position. I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be like that and it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg to get the sound you deserve! I have to wear hearing aids in my ears and I can tell you that if I don’t have good quality sound coming out of the speakers, I have a hard time understanding the words. If any of you have to wear hearing aids, you know exactly what I mean. Do yourself a favor – make a small investment in sound equipment to gain a large return in satisfaction and listening pleasure. Consider a marine radio (so you can use it outside on your boat, pontoon, patio, etc) with a set of marine speakers to round off your sound system. Many marine radios will allow your to play your pre-recorded MP3 and I-Pod tunes though the sound system by simply plugging them in! Enjoy. Happy Boater.
Add the Music Dimension to your Party…
It’s a nice day – you have a few friends coming over – you want to make an impression on them. Why not put them on your boat or pontoon, spend a day on the water! That is really a great way to spend the day!! One dimension to your party that you don’t want to sell short is fine music. Nearly everyone likes music. It seems to be one of the few things that really cross international lines easily – a common thread of satisfaction which we can all enjoy. It’s really quite easy to provide that missing dimension to your party in today’s world. Many marine radios are available with MP3 and I-Pod plug-ins. You can play your own pre-recorded music through your speaker system on board your own boat! I would highly recommend choosing marine speakers vs standard speakers as they are not affected by rain or inclement conditions that we all encounter occasionally. Make fun memories this weekend. Install a fine marine sound system and party on. Happy Boater.
A Day on the Water adds up to fun…
It doesn’t matter whether you use “new math” (you parents of young children will know what I mean here) or the old traditional methods – a day on the water with friends adds up to a lot of enjoyment! Of course, you will need to see to a few basics….things like safety, refreshments, and the music. Now there’s a big difference between music played through a quality system as compared to a bottom line system. The real kick is that there is really no need to put up with less than a great sound as played through great marine speakers because they have become so affordable! For a relatively small investment you can enjoy a terrific sound for your friends. Make the switch – invest today in your own listening pleasure. Feel those low notes in your gut as they are played through your new marine sub-woofer speakers. You’ll be happy you did. Have a great day on the water. Happy Boater.
Pontoon party ingredients…
There are, of course, basic essentials to make a party successful. And then – deciding where to have it is key to adding that unique dimension to your party. Why not plan to have it on the water? After all – anybody can have a party in their apartment, house, or on their deck at home. Now, don’t get me wrong – I enjoy those places for parties as well, but there’s something about the open air on a nice afternoon or evening that sets the stage for a really good time with your friends. Some of those essentials I spoke about would include good friends, great refreshments and snacks, and great music. If you haven’t taken a close look at your existing sound system, now would be a good time to update if necessary. Make sure that those old speakers of yours are capable of handling the output capabilities of your receiver unit. In order to get that “wow” factor from your friends for your music on board, a good (and quite inexpensive) set of sub woofer marine speakers will compliment the output from your marine radio to fill your afternoon or evening party with the happy sounds of your favorite tunes. Happy Boater.
Be the “weather eye guy” (or gal)…
There’s a lot of information available FOR FREE while you’re out having an enjoyable day on the water. Some of that FREE information comes through the NOAA weather channel on your marine radio. You may be fishing, skiing, tubing, or just simply joy riding. Weather conditions can change fast and it would be wise to be ready for any situation. What can help you do that? Very simply stated, you should have a marine radio on board that has the capability of receiving FREE NOAA weather warnings! They are broadcast 24/7 whenever the weather changes and these radios can be used for your on board parties as most of them will usually come with capabilities of plugging in your MP3 pre-recorded music or your IPod directly into the marine speaker system and you can enjoy your favorite tunes all day on the water! What can you lose? Always be safe and considerate of those you have on board. Happy Boater.
Need more “oooomph”?
Sometimes you just need a bit more power to accomplish what your desired sound quality. Maybe you need a better sound, or maybe it’s as simple as wanting to broadcast over a larger area! If those sound like some of your needs, then it is likely that you should consider a marine amplifier (new, larger marine speakers wouldn’t hurt, either). These units are waterproof and won’t let you down when you least expect it. With these units, you will be able to adjust your sub woofer sound and enjoy high quality listening! I personally enjoy having the bass set just to a point that you can feel it when its playing. A marine amplifier will allow you that control.
Remember – there’s nothing too good for a great day on the water! Up north here we just haven’t reached very warm temperatures yet, but I can see they’re coming as I look at the weather map for the rest of the country. I guess I can’t complain – we are, however, about 3 weeks ahead of schedule for spring as it is! Happy Boater.
