Two weeks ago, I took my grandson on a canoe ride – probably the ride of his life (at least I’m sure he’ll never forget it!)  It was a calm morning and I thought it would be good exercise for this teenage boy to go out with me on a canoe ride around the lake.  Now, the lake wasn’t all that big – probably a mile from one side to the other, but about the time we got to the other side, a frontal system came through and whipped up the waves until we found ourselves enveloped in white caps – about a foot and a half high!  Well, that probably wouldn’t have been so bad, but I’m about 3 times his weight and it became precarious very quickly.  When you try to keep a canoe going into the wind with the front end of the canoe nearly out of the water, you can imagine why I was having trouble!  I moved forward to get the front end down and proceeded to paddle like crazy and I don’t think my grandson has ever worked so hard!  I’ll give him credit – he didn’t stop until we got closer to home, but then pretty much caved in.  Sure would have been nice (and safer) if I had been able to radio home on my CB Radio to have someone come out and tow us home!  Oh well, – all ended well.  Happy Boater.
