Being able to understand what you hear is critical…
I can only speak for myself as far as having trouble hearing, but I can assure you it isn’t fun when you can’t understand what is being said. Sure, it makes for some very funny dinner conversations when I misunderstand something that was said and comment on what I thought it was that was said. Everyone gets a laugh, but if you think about it, it really isn’t all that funny. We have a television set just off our kitchen – you know - one of those little flat screen televisions with speakers built right into the bottom of it. It’s even a brand name, but I think those are the worst speakers that I’ve ever listened to. To me, it garbles just about everything that is said through them. Well, the same thing happens when you have bad speakers on board your boat or pontoon – trying your best to play some good music through them or hear a radio transmission from someone. Marine speakers are the key to your problems on board any boat or pontoon. Digital quality, and weather proof and the 2 key factors that place them head and shoulders above normal speakers. make the switch today and start hearing (and understanding) what is being said. Happy Boater.
Planning a backyard fall cookout?
I just had a backyard cookout at our cabin. We had a wonderful time with family and friends and enjoyed fresh baby back ribs and corn on the cob. YUMMM!! At the end of this blog, I’ll share the recipe with you so you can also enjoy this. I can’t say I had outdoor speakers set in place so as to enjoy fine dining music outside, but the thought was sure there. There are some GREAT marine speakers available which are waterproof and therefore “weatherproof” when installed in your back yard or on your deck. …and they are simple to install. Simply make a box of wood, cover it in some outdoor carpet, cut a hole the size of the speaker, and voila – you have a speaker that will give you hours of listening pleasure – right there in your own back yard. Now, that recipe I promised you…..
Buy yourself a couple of fresh baby back ribs (extra meaty are the best). Rub them with a pork seasoning rub (both sides). Wrap the ribs (completely sealed) with aluminum foil in a jelly roll pan or something with sides on it so the juices won’t run all over your oven. Cook the ribs at 325 degrees for 2 hours. Take them out and place them on the outside grill – bone side down first. Brush on your favorite BBQ sauce generously and turn over several times over a 15 minute period – re-applying the BBQ sauce at every turning of the ribs (both sides). Take off and serve. I guarantee they will be a hit!! …and sooo simple. Happy Boater.
Speakers are the key to good listening…
Usually, when all you hear is crackling when you are trying to enjoy your favorite tune over a speaker system, the fault isn’t usually from the receiver but the fault lies with the speakers you are using. Good speakers (up to a very real limit) can even make a poor radio receiver sound pretty good. Now, I did say “up to a very real limit”. That’s because even good speakers can’t put more sound out than it receives from the receiver unit, but it can enhance the sound quality so at least you can hear what is being played. To take it to the next level where you “feel” the sound in your gut, you will have to get a new receiver as well. Then, listening to your favorite tunes will be just plain pleasure. Take care of your self today. Start with new marine speakers – just made for that special day on the water with your favorite people. Happy Boater.
Speakers crackling?? …time to update those tired speakers….
We’ve all heard them – crackly sounds coming out of speakers that you trying to understand. …or maybe your favorite song being played and you have all you can do to even recognize it because of the poor sound quality. Maybe it never occurred to you, but there really is a better way to listen to your favorite song! In today’s market, marine speakers are taking over the center ring because of the general sound improvement and the durability of them. They are actually waterproof so you can use them on your deck in the back yard, on your boat, on your pontoon, or anywhere else you little heart can imagine putting them. …and you can put them there without worry of weather. What’s better than that?? Besides that, then you can enjoy your favorite song through a quality system. These little speakers can even make a poor receiver sound good. Your boat or pontoon has to come out of the water anyway pretty soon (especially of you live where I live – where the lakes freeze in the winter) so why not take advantage of this and install new speakers on your boat so you can be “party ready” when the birds of the spring hit the air and the ice goes out on the lake. Happy Boater.
Tired of saying, “Would you repeat that?”
Granted, some of us that are hard of hearing and wear hearing aids are destined to a life of saying that tiring phrase, I’m afraid as hearing aids aren’t all their cracked up to be. Sure, they help but they sure aren’t the “real thing”. But, what if you’re finding yourself saying that phrase when receiving a call over your marine radio and you’re NOT hard of hearing. Let me suggest that the problem may not be your ears or your radio (although don’t dismiss that possibility entirely if yours doesn’t have digital sound), but your problem may be in your speakers – WORN OUT SPEAKERS. Marine speakers on the market today are not only waterproof so you don’t have to be concerned with weather when mounting them, but they have built in digital technology. Sound like the right ticket for you?? They don’t even cost an arm and a leg to get great speakers. Why wait! Happy Boater.
Crummy sound doesn’t necessarily mean a crummy radio…
A person doesn’t have to stretch his/her imagination too far to come up with a situation where you were listening to a radio and just plain couldn’t tell what they were saying. That could be even on a television set as I know those speakers are not necessarily very high quality. Don’t just go out and shoot your old radio without considering just what kind of speakers that sound is being broadcast though. Maybe the radio is really that bad, but more than likely you can increase the quality of that sound by simply adding (or replacing) the speakers. True, the VHF radios sold now are all digital quality, unless you purchase them used or find a new obsolete one on an auction or something, but having that digital quality is a very fine feature. Very likely you can improve the whole picture of your whole listening pleasure by simply replacing those old speaker with digital quality marine speakers. They are waterproof so weather is no longer a concern. They can be used on your deck or in your back yard to have nice music piped into your relaxing area. Wherever you want them to be, they can be there. Happy Boater.
“Marine speakers” is the way to go…
It sure makes me wonder why in the world some guys invest good money to put a great VHF Marine Radio into their boat and then plug it into some old worn out speakers that probably don’t even have digital sound capability. Since all of the newer marine radios are now digital quality, why not get the best bang for your buck and allow the sound to flow through a speaker that is capable of handling the output from the radio! Your radio may have the capability of putting out great sound, but if you plug it into a “less than desirable” speaker system, you’ve actually gained very little. If you have some trouble with hearing loss, you owe it to yourself to go digital. It makes all the difference in the world. You can actually understand what the person on the other end of the conversation is saying! New concept, hey?? Do yourself a favor and make the switch to digital (marine speakers as well as VHF Radio) - you won’t regret it for a minute! Happy Boater.
Common installation errors some folks make…
You have a brand new pair of marine speakers and are about to install them on your boat or pontoon. There are a couple of things that you should know before you begin. Normally these are relatively easy to install but just because they work doesn’t mean they are installed correctly. Make sure your new speakers are large enough (but not too big so as to waste money when purchasing them) to handle the output of your radio. You don’t want to be installing speakers that forces “8 lane freeway sound” to a “logging road sound”. That would be a shame so always check to make sure what the output is of your radio so you can purchase the correct speakers. Each speaker comes with a template which will allow you to trace around to mark the hole to be cut out. Yep, this is the scariest part. Take your time and you’ll do fine. Choose a spot which will allow the speaker to “breath”. These speaker create a certain amount heat and need breathing room. Don’t put them into a spot which doesn’t allow for heat dissipation. When stringing the speaker wire to the speakers, make sure that you have the same length of speaker wire running to each of your speakers – even if one speaker is only 4 feet from the radio and the other is 12 feet from the radio. Just coil up the excess wire on the short run and all will turn out “just ducky”. Happy Boater.
Why not add sound to your backyard deck?
For years people have been building decks in their back yards. That’s a given. But most of them didn’t enjoy the added dimension of sound when they were done because the technology wasn’t available when the decks were built. Sure – back then you could build boxes for the speakers and try to locate them in a sheltered area (maybe under a roof overhang) so as to protect it from the weather. Sound familiar?? Well, that is no longer necessary and the day has come when you can transform your old unused deck to a center of entertainment. This is easily done with the small investment into a pair of marine speakers. These little speakers are waterproof and therefore you won’t have to “hide” your speakers or be concerned when the wind and rain get them wet. The speakers can easily be mounted wherever you would like them to be and you can just simply forget about them as far as the weather is concerned. What could be easier. Take advantage of the weather this fall season and consider adding that new dimension of sound to your deck. Happy Boater.
Hearing is NOT understanding!
Now there’s a lot of you out there that I know will understand what I’m talking about – especially those of you who have a bit of trouble hearing. When a radio broadcast is heard, it can sound like a bunch of gibberish or it can sound as clear as a bell – and this is highly leveraged toward what kind of speakers the broadcast is being picked up through. Take it from me – there is NOTHING more frustrating that hearing someone say something and not being able to answer because you don’t know what was said because of the quality of the speakers. This is especially true for those of us with hearing problems in the first place. Do yourself a favor and get up to speed with your radio speakers. Trash those old worn out – old technology – speakers and replace them with state of the art marine speakers. These new speakers are not even affected by inclement weather conditions because they are waterproof. Use them even outside on your deck for outdoor parties. There is no longer any reason to have to keep your music inside. Mount your speakers outside and forget them! They will always be there for your listening pleasure!! Happy Boater.
