Got a marine radio receiver?? …protect it…

Don’t do as I did  because I didn’t buy that little protective cover for my radio receiver.  The results?????…….I ruined my radio.  These radios will hold up to a lot of weather, but are not intended to be constantly subjected to inclement weather.  It thought that as long as I had a radio with a removable front on it and I religiously took the face of the radio into the house with me when I was done using it, all would be OK.  Wrong.   I now have to replace my radio and it’s my own fault.  Those little protective covers are only about $25 or so and are well worth the money.  Do yourself a favor and take care of your radio investment.  I must say that when you don’t have the music available to you on board  when you’ve become used to it, it leaves a pretty big hole.  That would be especially true of the newer marine radio receivers as they now have the capability of playing all the pre-recorded MP3 and I-pod tunes by simply plugging them into the face of the radio – cool, hey?  Take my advice and protect your equipment.  Happy Boater.

Now you can listen to your MP3 on the boat!

Now you don’t even have to give up your music that is continually plugged into your ear when you head out on the water in the boat!  If you have a marine radio receiver, you can enjoy countless hours of fine listening while dangling a fishing line in the water or simply enjoying the sun!  These little players have an MP3 plug built right into them which allows direct transfer of tunes through the digital speaker system provided by the marine speakers on board the boat or pontoon.  This all points to a very fun time.  Besides being able to listen to your favorite tunes, you will be able to receive any critical weather updates via NOAA through your marine radio receiver.  What more could a person want for an incredible day!  Let’s see…I think if you invite me on  board, I’d like to hear some 50′s/60′s tunes, or maybe a bit of country!  The good news is that you’re in charge of the music as it will be all your favorite recorded tunes.  When purchasing a marine radio, make sure you have the “plug in” option for your MP3 or I-Pods as some of the radios don’t have that feature.  You may as well get the radio that fits your lifestyle right at the get go!!  Happy Boater.

Music is the “sparkplug” for any party…

Have you ever gone to a party where there is no music being played in the background?  Kinda scary, isn’t it!  Those normal and natural lulls in conversation seem to go on forever.  I think those moments are really uncomfortable.  Well, this summer when you decide to have friends over you can have the best and greatest tunes playing.  And how will you know this?  Because you will have recorded the music yourself and those tunes will be the very ones you have on your MP3 memory stick or your I-Pod.  These will now plug right into a marine radio receiver and as long as your guests like the same music as you do, you will have all the making of a VERY successful party.  All the ingredients will be in place…friends, music, fun, and refreshments.  Summer is here now – don’t let it get too far ahead of you before you get out and enjoy it!  Happy Boater.

Home theater vs marine speakers…

I know this comparison isn’t really realistic, but let’s think about this for a minute…  I know there are hundreds, if not thousands of guys out there that sink a lot of money into a home theater sound system.  Why do they do this?  I’m not sure but some of the answers I suspect would be “Because I wanted to”, “Because I wanted to hear the words better”, Because I wanted to impress my friends”, and several other obvious excuses.  The simple truth is, when you can’t hear the words or the music clearly that you are spending you time to hear, it fails to impress you.  This is the very line I think should be crossed on every boat with a built in music system as played through a marine radio receiver.  For really very little, you can install marine speakers into your watercraft and have the capability of reproducing your prerecorded music (direct from your MP3 player or I-Pod) and hear it in digital quality.  It’s extremely easy to do, and the results make it well worth the effort.  Self satisfaction with being able to do it yourself is a reward within itself.  Being able to share your tunes with your friends through clear and crisp speakers will impress your friends.  I think this is the summer to step out and enter the next level of music appreciation!  Happy Boater.

Still keeping an eye out for the day the ice begins to turn black…

Call it wishful thinking – as far as that goes, you can call it just about anything you want – but, when the calendar says it is spring, my mind wants everything that goes with it…i.e.boating, swimming, fishing, warm weather, picnics, etc.  Well, this scenario might hold true in some of the southern states, but up north we have to learn to be patient a bit longer.  You see, we still have solid ice on our inland lakes in northern Minnesota which hasn’t even started to turn black for us (this would be an indication the ice was on it’s last legs and was about to sink and go away).  I guess that means that we that live in the north have much more patient than those of you that enjoy a VERY early spring.  That also means that we have a bit longer to get our boats ready for the summer boating season and I guess there’s nothing wrong with that!  While on your boat getting it cleaned up for the season you can be listening to your favorite quality tunes played through your marine radio receiver.  Pretty nice that now you can simply plug your I-pod or your mp3 player into your marine radio and enjoy that digital sound quality through your marine speakers.  Life doesn’t get too much better than that – right??  Happy Boater.

Has your taste in music changed??

I find that over the years, my taste in music has definitely changed!  In general, I still like the “basics”, but as I think over the last 30 years, I realize that my taste in music has drastically changed!  I’ve gone from rock-n-roll, to country, to gospel, to classical, and lately to a mix of all of the above.  Now – if your a person like me with a lot of different tastes in music, AND you don’t want to be carrying around a lot of cassette tapes or CD’s when you go out on the boat for a day, then I have a solution for you.  Why not invest in a marine radio – one that has a receptacle on the face of the radio to receive your MP3 player memory disc or I-Pod memory plug-in.  How does that help?  Well, with those little memory sticks having the capacity that they do today, one can record all of their favorite music on 1 stick and be able to mix it up so you can have the best music of all of your various choices of music.  And that way, you won’t have to tote all those CD’s or cassettes around – or worry about picking them off the floor when they get knocked over (and I KNOW that happens…’cause I’ve done it).  Have fun this summer with your favorite tunes!  Happy Boater.

What!? …not everyone likes my music???

When you’re out on the boat – maybe several miles out and you plug your favorite tunes into the MP3 receptacle on the back of your marine radio receiver.  Maybe you’ll receive a lot of smiles from the others on board, then again, maybe you’ll be able to tell by the look on their faces that they really don’t like the music you chose to listen to.  I find that everyone (no matter how meek they are) has a definite opinion about #1 – how they like their eggs done in the morning and #2 – what kind of music they like.  It doesn’t seem to matter what their age is – the opinion is there and it’s a strong, strong force.  You can either ruin an otherwise wonderful day on the water with friends or bring it to a wonderful new level by you choice of music.  So, let’s use care when choosing the music for the day – consider the ages of those on board so your day can be a success!!  Happy Boater.

Could it be April 1 already?

In one sense, it seems like winter has lasted an eternity this year as we had snow storms in November and the snow never went away.  In another sense, it seems like I just put the boat away for the winter and here it is – time to take it out again!  Granted – there are some small detail preventing me from getting too excited like that 4 foot snow drift still in my yard between me and the boat, but a guy can dream – can’t he?  Why not dig out a path to you boat and use some of these spring days of bright sunshine to install a couple of new digital marine speakers on board.  Nothing like being able to hear your favorite music with the digital clarity allowed by the new speaker technology.  They are weatherproof so can be mounted just about anywhere with peace of mind that they will function perfectly.  Plus – you get that added satisfaction of providing your friends with a really great sounding system if you choose to play your own pre-recorded MP3 formatted music through your marine radio receiver when out on the water.  Be a hit this season  with your friends.  Get them installed before fishing season officially begins!!  Happy Boater.

Add music to your day on the water!!

Nothing like music to liven up any party – and that party doesn’t have to be in your back yard anymore!! That party can be on your pontoon boat or your larger speed boat.  It makes for a great day on the water!  And how can you do this?  By simply installing a marine radio on  board (which, by the way, you should have anyway) and pre-recording your favorite music into an MP3 format.  From that point it’s simple – just plug your memory stick into the receptacle on your marine radio and voila – you have music (your music) playing.  There seems to be a magical drawing quality about music – where music is playing, there will always be listeners.  Be kind to your friends and family when on the water – treat them to some great tunes!  Happy Boater.

The last day of February – get ready for spring!

Now – if you live in northern Minnesota, you know that this is a farce because we know what March can be like.  However – it doesn’t change the fact that with each day, we are closer to summer!  Yeah!!  At times during this time of the year, I would even find it fun to swat a mosquito!  …trouble is, with temps so cold, they have trouble flying with those heavy overcoats on!!  (just kidding)  Summer is on the way and now would be the time to update those old speakers of yours so this summer you can actually understand what is said through them!  New concept, hey?  Imagine being able to actually hear your own music played through an MP3 receiver jack on your marine radio receiver with the digital clarity that until recent years you could only get in an expensive sound system!  Yes – that technology is out there today.  I would encourage you to take a minute to assess your communication needs before the summer boating season is well underway and update where you need to make this years’ boating season a success!  Replace those old worn out speakers with modern, waterproof, marine speakers.  You won’t regret it.  Happy Boater.
